How to create your wedding website

You do not need everything decided before you start. A site can go up with your names and your date, and grow as the rest gets settled — most couples fill it in over several sittings rather than one.

What is worth having on hand

Only two things are genuinely required to begin: your names and your wedding date. Everything below can be added later.

• The ceremony and reception venues, or whichever one is booked
• A photograph you like, for the cover
• Your entourage list, as far as it goes
• Whether you are collecting gifts digitally, and through which accounts

The steps

1. Sign up and answer the short setup questions. Names, date, venue, and the language your site should be written in. This is also where you choose your first design.
2. Pick a template. There are fifteen. You can change it later without losing anything you have typed — see choosing a template.
3. Fill in your sections. Each part of the page — your story, the schedule, the entourage, gifts, FAQ — is a section you switch on and edit. Sections you do not switch on are simply absent from the page.
4. Add your guests. Type them in, or import a spreadsheet. Guests are separate from your entourage, deliberately, so a ninang who is not attending the reception does not become a seat.
5. Set your RSVP deadline. Do this before you publish. Why the order matters.
6. Publish. Until you do, your address shows nothing to visitors. What publishing does.
7. Share the link. Most Filipino guests reply from a group chat rather than a browser, so the link is the whole distribution plan. How to share it.

How long it takes

The setup questions take a few minutes. A site with a cover photo, a schedule and an entourage is usually an evening's work, spread over a week in practice because you are waiting on other people to confirm.
