Building your site

Sections: switching them on, reordering, and renaming the headings

Your page is built from sections you switch on. You can reorder them, group them into tabs, and rename any heading in your own words.

Your site is a stack of sections — your story, the schedule, the entourage, gifts, an FAQ, the RSVP form, and so on. Each one is switched on or off, and a section you have not switched on simply is not on the page.

Free sites can have twelve sections switched on at once; Premium allows twenty-five.

Reordering

Drag a section to move it. The order in the editor is the order on the page, and it is also the order of your navigation tabs — a section in the middle of the page gets a tab in the middle of the row.

Renaming any heading

Every section that prints a heading lets you write your own. There are two separate pieces of text, and it is worth knowing which is which:

  • The small label above the heading — the short spaced-out line. This is usually the one people want to change.
  • The heading itself.

Both accept your own words, in any language, and yours always beats the template's default. Leave a field blank and the design's own wording is used.

If a section's heading is not saying what you want, check the small label first — on most sections that is the line you are actually reading.

Capitals

Most designs set both the heading and that small label in capitals. Two settings under Style → Typography change it:

  • Heading style — Normal, Uppercase or Italic, for the headings themselves.
  • Section labels — Capitals, or as you typed them, for the small line above.

They are separate because couples rarely want the same answer for both: a spaced-out label reads well in capitals where a long heading does not. Your template picks sensible defaults, so you only need these if you disagree with them.

Grouping sections into tabs

Sections can be grouped, and each group becomes one navigation tab. This keeps a long page navigable: "For guests" might hold the dress code, the seating lookup and the FAQ, so those three share one tab instead of taking three.

You name the groups yourself. A section that belongs to no group gets its own tab.

Custom sections

If nothing fits, add a custom section and write whatever you need — a note about parking, a request about photographs during the ceremony, directions for guests coming from out of town.

Free sites can add two custom sections; Premium is unlimited.

Paragraphs, bold and italic

Long text fields keep your paragraph breaks. Type them as you would anywhere else and the published page will show the same breaks.

You can also bold or italicise part of a field — your story, an FAQ answer, a tradition, a hotel note, a things-to-do tip, the dress code, the countdown message. Select the words and use the B and I buttons above the box. Use it sparingly: one emphasised phrase in a paragraph reads as emphasis, and five read as noise.

Sections nobody fills in

A few are worth switching on even when they feel unnecessary: the FAQ answers the questions you would otherwise get individually, and the schedule saves the "what time should we be there?" messages. The order of service is the most-skipped section and the one guests most often want.
