Photos: your cover, your gallery, and how they are cropped

Your cover photo

The cover is the full-width photograph at the top of your site. It is the one image that is displayed larger than its own container, so it is the one worth uploading at the best quality you have.

Upload the original file from your photographer if you can, not a copy that has been through a chat app. Nupta compresses it for you, at a higher ceiling than other photos precisely because the cover is shown so large.

You can also add a separate portrait cover for phones. Most cover photographs are landscape, and a landscape crop on a tall phone screen loses most of the image — a portrait version fixes that without changing anything on desktop.

Keeping your names readable over the photo

Your names, date and intro line sit on top of the cover. A busy or bright photo can make them hard to read, so the Hero section in the editor has three settings under "Text over your cover photo":

• Photo darkness darkens the photo behind the text. This is the one that helps most, and it works on every template.
• Photo focus chooses which part of the photo stays in view when it is cropped to fit the screen — useful when faces are near the top or bottom of the frame.
• Text position moves your names to the top, middle or bottom. Most templates offer it; a few place their text as part of the design and say so.

Each one starts on the template's own setting, and choosing that option again puts it back exactly as it was.

Your gallery

Free sites hold five gallery photos; Premium holds thirty.

Tapping a gallery tile opens the photo full-size, so gallery photos are stored at a higher quality than photos elsewhere on the page.

Upload individual photographs, not a collage. This is the single most useful thing on this page. A collage is several photographs inside one file, so each face inside it ends up a fraction of the resolution — a three-by-three grid leaves every photo about a ninth of the detail it would have had on its own. It looks fine on a laptop and blurry on a phone. Split the collage and upload the photographs separately.

How tiles are cropped

Gallery tiles are cropped to a fixed shape, and the shape is part of the design. A photo that is not that shape is trimmed from the edges toward the centre.

Four of the fifteen templates crop by position — the first tile a different shape from the second — so moving a photo in the grid can change how it is framed. That is intentional design, not a fault.

The editor previews the same crop your guests will see, so what you approve is what gets published. If an important face is near an edge, move that photo to a different position or crop it yourself before uploading.

Storage

Free sites have 50MB; Premium has 300MB. That is generous for a wedding site — a well-compressed photograph lands well under a megabyte.

Photos you replace no longer count against your allowance. They used to, which quietly ate into the limit; replacing a photo now releases the old one.

If a photo will not upload

Files over 20MB are refused. That is usually a RAW file or an uncompressed export — ask your photographer for a JPEG, or export a smaller version. Taking a screenshot of it works but throws away most of the quality, so it is a last resort rather than the fix.
